Robert W. Schrier, MD, founded the Colorado
Prevention Center (CPC) in 1989. He remains
the principal investigator for its Appropriate
Blood Pressure Control in Diabetes (ABCD) trials.
Dr. Schrier has been a professor in the
Department of Medicine at the University of
Colorado Health Sciences Center for the past
25 years. He has authored over 700 scientific
papers and edited 37 texts in internal medicine,
geriatrics, drug usage, and kidney disease.
For his contributions in biomedical research,
education, and clinical medicine, Dr. Schrier
has received the highest awards from the American
College of Physicians, the National Kidney Foundation,
the American Society of Nephrology, the Western
Society of Clinical Investigation, the Association of
Professors in Medicine, and the American Kidney Fund.
Dr. Schrier has served as president of the
Association of American Physicians, the American
Society of Nephrology, the National Kidney Foundation,
and the International Society of Nephrology.
As the former Chairman of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Schrier:
- Trained over 1,000 residents and house officers in internal medicine
- Trained over 1,000 fellows in various medical subspecialties
- Personally brought over $50,000,000 in medical research funding to the University of Colorado
- Raised 30 endowed chairs in medicine with a total endowment of over $50,000.000.
