A five-year grant from a major pharmaceutical company extends the ABCD research until 2003.
In the second phase (ABCD-2-V), CPC is evaluating the impact of
an angiotensive receptor blocker (ARB) on the progression of Type 2 diabetes.
All patients in this trial phase are receiving treatment
to lower their blood pressure, but half have been randomly
selected to receive more intensive therapy and half to receive
less intensive (moderate) therapy. This will enable us to determine
the ideal blood pressure for preventing complications.
We expect to conclude the study by the end of 2003,
when the results will be published.
