CPC Home Page ABCD Trial

The Appropriate Blood Pressure Control in Diabetes (ABCD) Trial has been a major research activity of the Colorado Prevention Center for the past 12 years.

This study, one of the largest single-site studies ever performed, evaluated 950 randomized diabetic patients. The initial phase of the study was completed in 1998.

The study objective was to define the role of intensive versus moderate blood pressure lowering in individuals with Type 2 diabetes.

Additionally, the research compared certain drug therapies and their association with cardiovascular complications in Type 2 diabetes.

Robert Schrier, MD, Ray Estacio, MD, and other CPC researchers continue to disseminate findings from the first phase of the trial in medical journals, meetings, and educational symposia.
