The Colorado Prevention Center is taking a lead role in developing protocols and conducting large multi-center clinical trials in the area of peripheral arterial disease (PAD).
PAD is a major manifestation of arterosclerosis and
cardiovascular disease. Affecting over 10 million
Americans, PAD can be a significant cause of disability and premature death.
Sponsored by several major pharmaceutical companies,
CPC is studying a variety of medications to prevent the
complications of PAD. By evaluating new treatment options, we
hope to identify ways to improve muscle metabolism, relieve disabling
symptoms that accompany this disease, and improve the patients'
quality of life. We are also testing new therapies to prevent
heart attack, stroke and death from peripheral arterial disease.
PAD-Related Studies and Programs
CPC is on the forefront of PAD-focused clinical trials research, with programs and studies including:
- currently enrolling subjects at our clinical site for several PAD-related clinical trials.
- managing a multi-center trial (22 sites) studying the benefits of a naturally occurring compound.
- managing a multi-center trial (35 sites) studying the benefits of a new combination cholesterol treatment.
- developing a national PAD screening program to identify people with PAD.
- developing a PAD registry to track the natural history and health outcomes in persons with this disease.
